Where to Propose in Ireland!

Thinking of proposing on the question to your loved one in the romantic Emerald Isle? Check out Ireland’s best spots to pop that question...

Ireland is full to the brim of magical locations where you can pledge your heart to your beloved, so if you’re thinking of popping the question on Valentine’s Day then check out our guide to the most romantic spots in Ireland.

If you happen to be in Dublin then there’s no better place than the Grand Canal running along the city’s Southside, made famous in the literary works of incurable romantic and renowned Dublin poet Patrick Kavanagh. Walk hand in hand along the leafy waterfront amidst the quaint Georgian terraces, and pluck up the courage to ask for your sweetheart’s hand in marriage.

Alternatively follow the literary traces of Dublin writer James Joyce to Sandycove Tower and propose under the dramatic Dublin skyline.

Elsewhere, the beautiful village of Inistioge in County Kilkenny is also a great place to go with your nearest and dearest, set in amongst rolling green countryside and beautiful woodlands, it’s a favourite romantic haven for many Irish people and an ideal place to declare your love on vacation in Ireland.

Know Before You Visit Ireland

No matter where you go on your Ireland vacation it's important to do some research and find out about your destination first. If you're intending to visit Ireland in the near future, then we've put together a little survival guide that we hope you'll find very useful…

1.English is the spoken language in Ireland, even though Irish is the official language. It is taught in schools and mostly spoken in Gaeltachts or 'Irish speaking' areas in parts of Kerry, Cork, Galway, Mayo and Donegal.

2.The currency in Ireland is the Euro (€) but if you're travelling to Northern Ireland you'll need to stock up on some Pounds Sterling (£) for your Ireland trip.

3.Most shops and restaurants accept credit cards but you'll need to use your chip n' pin number to make purchase with your credit card.

4.ATM machines are plentiful. You can withdraw money as long as your credit card has the 'Cirrus' or the 'Plus' logo.

5.Most banks have a currency exchange counter if you need to change your money. Banks are open between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.

The Weather in Ireland

Will the weather be nice while you’re in Ireland on vacation? What should you wear? Should you pack an umbrella? These are questions nearly tourist asks when preparing for a trip to the Emerald Isle.

1. Don’t Believe the “Snowy Ireland” Rumor

Most people are shocked when I tell them that the weather was comfortable during the winter I lived in Dublin, Ireland. But it’s true. The average temperature each day was around 50 degrees F, and it only snowed once…if you’d even call it snowing. It was more like 30 minutes of light flurries. The truth is that it rarely gets cold enough in Ireland to produce snow. Although Ireland is pretty far north, it is an island and receives warm, moist winds from the Atlantic which makes the weather deceiving. So, don’t bother bringing your ski parka or snow boots when you come to Ireland! As a rule of thumb, the locals would say that Ireland weather is mild, but unpredictable.

2. One Outfit Per Day Isn’t Enough…

One of the most important things to remember when packing for an Ireland vacation is that the weather is extremely unpredictable. I’m talking about a beautiful sunrise and clear skies at 7 A.M., dark, cloudy rain showers at noon, and sunny skies again by 3 P.M…that kind of unpredictable. This is common for Ireland weather, so be prepared. My best piece of advice would be to plan on layering your clothes. That way, if it rains unexpectedly while you’re out, you can just take off your wet top layer (a sweater, for example)…and you’ll still be wearing dry clothes. Concerned about getting caught in a downpour that soaks you to the skin?

Relax in Ireland

Well we all love our Ireland vacations right? It is as much about winding down and relaxing away the stresses of every day modern life as it is about visiting new and possibly exotic places we have never seen or experienced. It is all to easy in our high paced lives to miss out on vacations and concentrate too much on our jobs and incomes. Well this year I decided I was going to have that break I needed and decided on an Ireland vacation as having lived there for a couple of years in my younger days I knew that life there outside of Dublin was very easy paced and was exactly what I wanted.

Well things have definitely changed in Ireland. They have had a lot of investment pumped in via the European market and things there are not a lot different than here in the states. People rushing about no time for the traditional Irish vacation welcome and I was beginning to think I had made a mistake. However I am not easily discouraged so I decided to change my itinerary somewhat and take a river cruise down the glorious river Shannon.

Ireland's Beautiful Culture

9. Culture - Irish Music and Dance. Wherever you are in Ireland on vacation, traditional foot tapping music will be played at informal sessions in original Irish pubs. You will be enthralled by the wonderful skill of the Irish dancer! The passion of Irish music passes from generation to generation, and its high esteem in the hearts of Irish people and the visitor will never die.

10. Modern Cities. Another reason to plan a visit to Ireland for a vacation is its modern cities. Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway and Limerick are all home to stylish shopping malls and boutiques, chic nightclubs, tourist attractions and excellent restaurants.

Ireland's Amazing History

7. Ireland’s History and Strong Heritage. Ireland has a wide and varied heritage. The magnificent Book Of Kells, which was drafted by Celtic Monks in the ninth century AD, is located at Trinity College, Dublin. Other marvellous places to visit include Newgrange in County Meath, a burial chamber and tomb, which predate Stonehenge and the Egyptian Pyramids at Giza. The Burren Area of North County Clare is well worth visiting on your Ireland vacation package, not only for the strange rocky landscape, but also for the prehistoric dolmen burial tombs.

8. Sports and Leisure. It is estimated that Ireland has the highest Ireland golf vacation course per capita in Europe. 2007 saw the Ryder Cup hosted at the K Club in Kildare, and golf courses at Lahinch, Doonbeg, Portmarnock and the Island Golf Course at Donabate are well worth exploring for a few rounds with a stunning backdrop of scenery. You can also try your hand at some of the outdoor pursuits in Ireland, such as horse riding, walking, mountain climbing to name but a few! The National Games of Ireland, Gaelic Football and Hurling are played with passion and pride, and the Gaelic Athletics Association (The Body for Administrating and Promoting Our Games) is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year. All 32 counties of Ireland have county and club teams, and the atmosphere at these games is just scintillating with great excitement. Croke Park, the home of the GAA is one of the largest stadiums in Europe. Make sure to try and catch a GAA match.

The Beauty of the Emerald Isle!

5. Stunning Irish Scenery. If its stunning views and scenic drives you are looking for, then you are spoilt for choice in Ireland vacation packages. From the Giants Causeway in County Antrim to the Cliffs of Moher to Connemara and the Lakes of Killarney there is so much to see and do in Ireland.

6. Festivals in Ireland. Nobody enjoys a party better than the Irish! The St.Patrick’s Day Festival in Ireland is a stunning annual event, and most towns and cities have their own Festival that commemorates Ireland’s patron Saint. There are plenty of summer festivals that are well worth checking out, including the Puck Fair Killorglin. There are also a number of food festivals held in the country. The Galway International Oyster Festival is held in September every year, and shortly after Kinsale hosts the Gourmet Food Festival.

Irish Food and Drink!

3. Ease of access to Ireland. Ireland is no longer an expensive place to get to – you have great options to get to Ireland, whether by air or sea carriers. Ryanair and Aer Lingus offer competitive rates to get to Ireland for your vacation and you have plenty of choice when selecting a travel method/route to Ireland. Today Ireland is easy to get to and get around. So book that car rental and get exploring the Emerald Isle!

4. Irish Food and Drink. It’s fair to say that Ireland is not blessed with the culinary delights of France, Spain or Italy, but you have a huge selection of international dineries in most large towns, with Chinese restaurants prominent for example. If dining in an Irish restaurant, you will certainly enjoy by the taste of Irish cuisine, Irish stew made with lamb or beef is one dish, another is bacon and cabbage. These are the traditional foods enjoyed by the people! Seafood such as Oysters and Irish Salmon are dishes that are well worth tasting. Why not wash them down with a pint of one of Ireland’s famous exports, a pint of the black stuff, Guinness.

Reasons to Visit Ireland

1. The clean fresh air of Ireland! Ireland doesn’t have the warmest climate of Europe – with temperatures in the summer months rarely averaging above 22°C. Getting off the beaten track in Ireland, to the rural areas of the country is the best way to enjoy the fresh air and enjoy beautiful scenic drives and walking routes. West Cork and Kerry, the Connemara region of Galway and North West Clare (around Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher) are some of the best places you can go to enjoy the open air on your vacation package to Ireland!

2. The Warmth and Friendliness of the People. It is often said that you should never forget to bring a smile to Ireland on your vacation, as it will be returned a hundred times to you. Irish people are generally very friendly and helpful, and will have the time always to give you directions, and advice as how to get to your destination and help you on your way.

Sceptre Revolutionizes Group Travel With New Program For 10+ People

New 6-Night Programs Provide More Flexibility, Down Time,
And Can Be Customized To A Group's Personal Interests

Lynbrook, NY (July 12, 2010) - As a result of the growing vacation trends of Baby Boomers — including the desire to travel with small groups of friends or on multi-generational trips with family — Sceptre Tours has revolutionized the leisure group travel market today by creating a new Groups Your Way program that offers travel agents the flexibility to customize 6-night travel programs to Ireland or Italy for a minimum of only 10 passengers.

According to Chris Accomando, President of Sceptre Tours, "A program of this type is relatively unheard of because it provides agents with the flexibility to customize a leisure group tour for a minimum of 10 passengers at a very affordable rate. Prior to this, agents would have to secure a minimum of 20 passengers in order to match such rates."

Mr. Accomando notes that due to Sceptre's volume buying power and long-standing relationships in the industry, it has been able to negotiate such affordable pricing to appeal to this burgeoning small group travel market. Additionally, Sceptre has been able to negotiate incredibly affordable group airfare rates for Wednesday travel (travel is available for any day of the week; however Wednesdays are most affordable). Additionally, for those who take advantage of the Wednesday air rates, if 10 people are traveling, one person flies free for travel November through March.

Agents can start with eight basic six-night Ireland vacation packages (five for Ireland and three for Italy) and then customize them based upon the groups' preferences for sightseeing excursions, down time, and transportation. The base packages all include 6 nights' accommodation, round-trip airport transfers, airfare (if applicable), and a minimum of two days of excursions. Agents then have a virtual Chinese menu of approximately 15 excursions to choose from based on the group's specific interests ranging from family friendly tours to religious tours, pub tours, culinary classes, wine tastings, etc. Sceptre can also assist with arranging transportation via motor coach, chauffeur-driven car, or rental cars for those who want to drive themselves.

The Groups Your Way program includes such notable properties in Ireland as Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort, The Ritz-Carlton Powerscourt, and The Heritage Spa & Resort as well as such prime locations in Italy like the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany.

"The important factor to note here," adds Mr. Accomando, "is that often when groups take an existing escorted tour, they don't have the flexibility to make it their own or to take a day or two off from sightseeing if they so choose. With our program, they can do as much or as little as they like and truly design an affordable vacation that appeals to their individual interests."

Land only rates for this Groups Your Way program start at $579 per person based on 10 people traveling.

Travelers Can Gather Just 9 Friends Or Family And Create Their Own Vacation Package In Ireland or Italy With Sceptre Tours

New 6-Night Programs Provide More Flexibility, Down Time,
And Can Be Customized To A Group's Personal Interests

Lynbrook, NY (July 12, 2010) - Sceptre Tours has created a new Groups Your Way program that offers travelers the flexibility to customize 6-night travel programs to Ireland or Italy for a minimum of only 10 people — family, friends, or a special interest group — and take advantage of a group volume discount.

According to Chris Accomando, President of Sceptre Tours, "We decided to create this type of group program in response to the growing vacation trends of Baby Boomers. Over the past few years we have found that more and more Baby Boomer generation travelers are coming to us with the desire to travel with small groups of friends or on multi-generational trips with family and they want the ability to customize a tour. In the past, most customized group programs required a minimum of 15 to 20 passengers and are often restrictive with regard to the elements of the tour."

Mr. Accomando adds that, "A program of this type is relatively unheard of because it provides travelers with the flexibility to customize travel for a minimum of 10 people at a very affordable rate. Prior to this, one would have to secure a minimum of 20 passengers in order to match such rates."

Due to Sceptre's volume buying power and long-standing relationships in the industry, it has been able to negotiate such affordable pricing to appeal to this burgeoning small group travel market.

Travelers, working on their own or with a travel agent, can start with eight basic six-night packages (five for Ireland and three for Italy) and then customize them based upon the groups' preferences for sightseeing excursions, down time, and transportation. The base packages all include 6 nights' accommodation, round-trip airport transfers, airfare (if applicable), and a minimum of two days of excursions. The traveler's then have a virtual Chinese menu of approximately 15 excursions to choose from based on the group's specific interests ranging from family friendly tours to religious tours, pub tours, culinary classes, wine tastings, etc.

Land only rates for the Groups Your Way program start at $579 per person based on 10 people traveling.
